The Wardrobe by Me Simple Skirt is a pattern that very much lives up to its name – it definitely is a simple skirt, in the best way possible. There are only two pattern pieces, it's quick to sew and it's easy to wear.
The Simple Skirt is a pull-on style with an elasticated waistband and a flowing A-line silhouette. The pattern is intended for knit fabrics, and covers waist sizes from 25¼" to 42¼" and hip measurements from 34¾" to 51".
The skirt comes in two lengths in the pattern – either 28" or 37", which worked out as just below knee length or roughly ankle length respectively on me (I'm about 5'9"). To be awkward, I decided I wanted a length between the two. I ended up shortening the longer length (view B) by 4" to give me a finished length of 33".
As I mentioned above, the pattern only has two pattern pieces (one for the front/back and one for the waistband). It is a very straightforward project to sew and comes together really quickly.
The instructions seemed clear and easy to follow, although to be honest I only glanced at them because the steps were relatively obvious to me having made similar projects before.
I think this would be a good project for people new to sewing with knit fabrics, or it's a nice quick win if you have more experience.
In terms of fit, my waist and hip measurements both fell right between the M and L sizes. Looking at the finished garment measurements, I was fairly sure that the M would technically fit but would end up feeling too tight after I'd worn it for a while, but that the L would be a little too loose.
The pattern only has ¼" seam allowances included, so I decided to cut a size L but to use ½" seam allowances to take it in a little bit and get the fit I wanted. Thankfully that worked out nicely, and the finished skirt is neither too tight nor too loose, and is really comfortable to wear.
The fabric I used is a magenta cotton jersey that I bought locally. It's a nice weight for this pattern, and I really like the colour.
All in all, I enjoyed sewing the Simple Skirt and it's really nice to wear. I could definitely see myself making more versions in different colours or prints, so it's a thumbs up from me!
